  • Prokofiev: Symphony No. 1, “Classical”
  • Dvorák: Cello Concerto, Lawrence Granger, soloist
The overture to Rimsky-Korsakov's fairy-tale opera is titled appropriately for the evening. Mozart's "Gran Partita" serenade for winds is, as the jealous Salieri would say in Amadeus, "finished as no music is ever finished." A fitting companion work is Prokofiev's homage to the Classical era. Featured soloist is Pleasanton's own Lawrence Granger, a member of the San Francisco Symphony since 1979.
