Doo Wah Riders
There is no one else like The Doo-Wah Riders. For over thirty years they have been riding their own patch of the musical range throughout the west. The universal appeal of their music lies in their ability to reach across genres, from western swing and bluegrass, to Tex-Mex and Cajun, and even songs from TV westerns. With a unique blend of decades of experience, youthful musical energy and a passion for what they do, The Doo Wah Riders’ tight musicianship and powerful arrangements of classic and original songs make them friends wherever they go. “The Doo-Wah Riders are still on the bucking bronco of show business, refusing to fall off. As long as they’re around, country music still lives.” / THE ACORN

Much Ado About Nothing - Shakespeare's Associates
For feisty Beatrice and Benedick, love is a game of wits, a “merry war” of verbal sparring and one-upmanship. For Hero and Claudio, it is conventional romance, leaving them love-struck and tongue-tied. These opposite love stories play out against a comic background of scoundrels and clowns – when villainy threatens, it is the bumbling Dogberry who saves the day. Much Ado About Nothing, full of love and laughter, will both delight and entertain you.

Event Date / Time / Location Description
Stardust Cowboys June 8
Sunday

2:00pm

Main Library

Get in the mood for Rodeo Week by listening to The Stardust Cowboys perform on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 2pm, at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center, 1188 S. Livermore Avenue. There is no charge for this event.

The Stardust Cowboys, a Northern California based band, play a blend of mostly original with western traditional tunes, reminiscent of the ’40s-’50’s Bob Wills, Spade Cooley and Gene Autry era, honoring both the cowboys of yesteryear and silver screen with songs about the Old West. Listen to Bob Wills’ Texas style western swing, followed by old-time cowboy tunes. Their originals are written distinctly in a cowboy swing flavor and about living life in the hardy setting of the western country.

The Stardust Cowboys, stacked with song-writing talent and honorees in Western Music, has energized crowds throughout California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Montana and Canada for more than twenty five (25) years at nightclubs, casinos, fairs, rodeos, regional concerts, cowboy events and many name act openers. Many of their members have been inducted into various western music halls of fame, and their songs have frequently hit the top 10 on western swing charts.

The Academy of Western Artists nominated the song “Ridin’ Back To You”, for the 2010 Western Song of the Year and the “Ridin’ Back To You” CD won the Will Rogers 2011 Western Album of the Year. Their newly released CD is titled “Honky Tonk Cowboy & the Desert Flower” featuring original compositions along with a bluegrass standard and an old-time gospel.

Exploring Patagonia: National Parks and Beyond June 12
Thursday

1:30-2:30pm

Main Library

ARMCHAIR TRAVELERS, a monthly program, will take place at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center on THURSDAY, JUNE 12TH, 2014 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Susan and Ralph Alcorn will present “Exploring Patagonia: National Parks and Beyond,” a digital slide show focusing on their travels and hiking in Patagonia. In 2009 and 2010, they backpacked the Circuit Route in Torres del Paine, Chile and hiked in Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina. Audience members will also enjoy scenes of the Lake District; Santiago, Chile; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

From their travels came Susan Alcorn's most recent book, Patagonia Chronicle: On Foot in Torres del Paine. Their last program for Armchair Travelers was in June 2012 when they gave a presentation entitled “Trekking across Spain on the Camino Frances.”

Adults are invited to this free program on the second Thursday of each month in the Community Meeting Rooms of the Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Avenue, Livermore. For additional information please call 925 373-5500.
