The Drowsy Chaperone - Tri-Valley Repertory Theater - Main Stage
A rare combination of unprecedented originality and blinding talent, The Drowsy Chaperone boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. If you’ve ever sat in a dark theatre and thought, “Dear Lord in heaven, please let it be good,” this is the show for you! It all begins when a die-hard musical-theatre fan plays his favorite cast album on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love.

About Science on Saturdays:
Free Lecture Series for Middle and High School Students

Science on Saturday (SOS) is a series of science lectures for middle and high school students. Each topic highlights cutting-edge science occurring at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). The talks are presented by leading LLNL science researchers supported by master high school science teachers. These presentations are offered in several locations. See the schedule below to find locations nearest to you.

Admission is free of charge. Seating is on a first come basis. Seats may not be reserved in advance. See the schedule for the starting times of each presentation, and a map to the venue. Seating is limited. Please come early to ensure that you will find a seat.

Students receive a "Student Notes" worksheet to record key information from the talk. The worksheet will be marked with the official SOS stamp at the end of the presentation. Many teachers use the worksheet to award "extra credit." Students should check with their teacher in advance to determine if they will receive credit for attending SOS.

Teachers who attend the SOS presentations can receive a CD with the presentation slides. If the talk is video recorded, they can receive a DVD of the recorded talk as well. These CDs and DVDs are offered free of charge and are sent by mail after the completion of the lecture series for the year. Be sure to register when you attend to receive your copy of these valuable teaching resources.

Copland: Lincoln Portrait William Perry, narrator
Hanson: Symphony No. 2, “Romantic”
Schubert: Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished”
plus solos by winners of the 2013–2014 Competition for Young Musicians

How did Franz Schubert write, publish, and perform a symphony without actually finishing it? Are there more politics and humor to this story than we might first realize? Join us as the Symphony investigates this musical enigma and performs classics of the American repertoire: Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait”, written in 1942 at the height of patriotic fervor during WWII, featuring narrator and former Defense Secretary William Perry; and Howard Hanson’s lyrical Symphony No. 2, one of the Eastman School of Music director’s acclaimed works which eventually led him to a Pulitzer Prize. Don’t miss this evening of musical excellence as we also feature the winners of our student competition!

Guitar Passions
Three guitar virtuosos unite in an exquisite evening of Latin-inspired jazz. Three-time Grammy Award-winning guitarist Sharon Isbin merges her innovative classical technique and talent for collaboration with iconic jazz master Stanley Jordan and Brazil’s leading guitarist Romero Lubambo for a not-to-be-missed musical experience. Drawing from Isbin’s musical mentors and the influences of the music of Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Colombia and Spain, the three build on the distinctive Latin flavors with a classic and contemporary twist. “Elevates classical guitar to a whole new level… captures what’s unique about each performer’s personality and style and melds it into a new guitarified creation.” / GUITAR WORLD

Cyrille Aimee
Jazz vocalist Cyrille Aimée brings a culturally rich background to the rhythmic and expressive style of jazz for which she has won widespread acclaim. Born in France, she blends her conservatory training with the music of her heritage—the driving force of Dominican rhythms and the incredible swing of the French gypsies. Her fluid style earned top honors in the 2012 International Sarah Vaughan Competition. At the age of 26, Aimée has already released five albums and is one of the hottest young artists on the New York music scene. “Curiosity and open-heartedness characterize singing that runs from adventurous, free-form scat to lightly torchy.” / NEW YORK TIMES
