Godspell - Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre
Based on The Gospel According to St. Matthew

One of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time, Godspell is the product of an era of theatrical experimentation. The show, which is not built on a traditional plot, utilizes improvisation, pantomime, charades, and vaudeville to tell the story of Christ. Featuring a sparkling, seminal score by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell boasts a string of recognizable songs, led by the international hit, “Day by Day.” In general, the score is representative of the style of the stage play: that being a mixed bag of genres, in this case ranging from vaudeville to gospel to folk to hoe-down to rock opera. It has a very serious edge to it, and it has a number of very serious messages about compassion, forgiveness, community, hypocrisy, and giving one’s life for one’s beliefs. As the cast makes its way through their personal journey to understanding a message of love, we as audience members get to see the parables of Jesus Christ come to life in a way that can’t fail to gladden our hearts.

Halden Wofford and the Hi-Beams
Halden Wofford and the Hi-Beams' classic style of honky tonk has a language and culture all to itself, but only takes one quick lesson to learn how to love for a lifetime. The twang of the steel guitar, snap of the snare drum, thump of the stand-up bass and rippin' electric guitar solos mix with Wofford's distinctive vocals to create a sound that is familiar yet purely original. Ringing out all along the Front Range of Colorado and beyond, Wofford's wavering tenor conjures up images of Hank Williams Sr., Buddy Holly and Bob Wills.

Peter Pan
The story-length ballet follows Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and The Darlings on adventures that begin in the Children’s bedroom and end in a magical place called Neverland. The gregarious group dance with toys, shadows, pixie dust, and fly amongst the stars. With Captain Hook and a band of pirates close on their heels, the friends manage to get into plenty of mischief with mermaids and fairies and rely on jungle animals, Indians, and The Lost Children to keep them safe.

Audience members will be sure to enjoy a production that is filled with classical and contemporary choreography, showcasing the talents of the very youngest dancer up through the advanced level ballet dancer. The musical score is sure to delight with classical pieces by such memorable composers as Delibes and Prokofiev, as well as, popular music of today by Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

Team KC Community Blood Drive

Team KC Community Blood Drive
On June 17, the American Red Cross will have two blood drives in Livermore, both in honor of Korrine Croghan, who required over 80 units of blood to sustain her life during a battle with a rare form of cancer.

The Team KC blood drive is hosted by Marcel Orthodontics located at 2084 4th Street in Livermore. Family and friends of Korrine will be there to welcome donors.

The bi-monthly Livermore Community blood drive is sponsored by Thomas Petty from WSI Smart Solutions, and hosted at Asbury United Methodist Church, located at 4743 East Avenue.

Those who knew Korrine are encouraged to come to either drive and donate blood. Petty said, "We want to honor Korrine by dedicating our community drive to her." Donors can sign up at www.redcrossblood.org and use either TeamKC or Asbury925 as the sponsor code. Each drive is from 1-7:00 p.m.

Korrine Croghan was just barely a teenager when she was diagnosed with an rare, but aggressive form of cancer, choriocarcinoma. It affects about 200 teen girls in the USA each year. She endured 10 months of an intense chemotherapeutic regimen that was designed for adult men.

Having a relatively rare A- blood type, which only 3.5% of the population has, she needed over 80 units of A- blood to help her fight for survival. Blood donations from the surrounding community literally helped her survive during those 10 months, and have more time with her friends and family. Without the blood donations, she could not have survived as long.

Dana Croghan, Korrine's mother said, "People see the importance of giving blood to help save lives and to make others feel better by their blood donations. Our blood is freely given to us, so in turn, we should freely give to others in need of our precious life saving blood."

Team KC is dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer patients and their families.

Blood donors must be 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and in good health. Donors should bring a form of identification such as driver's license or American Red Cross donor card. For more information, visit www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS (800-733-2767).

10th Annual Livermore Relay for Life
One Day! One Night! One Community! One Fight!

Come join us at the 10th annual Livermore Relay For Life!!!

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's flagship annual fundraiser. Relays take place all over the country, and for the tenth consecutive year, Livermore will have its own Relay. It's an incredible event - last year we raised over $216, 000 for cancer research! But it's much more than just a fundraiser – it’s an amazing bonding experience. Virtually everyone has been touched, directly or indirectly, by cancer and a very important part of this event is celebrating cancer survivors and remembering those who have lost their battle with cancer. Many cancer patients look forward to this event all year long and we make this as special as possible for them.

This will be the fourth year that we are recognizing Care Givers as an important part of a cancer patients’ life and invite all Care Givers to join us to
Celebrate, Remember & Fight Back!

This is a 24-hour event, starting at 9am on Saturday, June 25th and ending at 9am on Sunday, June 26th, on the track at Livermore High School. Not only is this a great fundraiser; it’s also lots of FUN! Teams are formed to raise funds and take turns walking laps. They set up a tent and camp out at the event. The relationships that develop during this time are impressive. There are prizes for tent decoration, themed laps, and most money raised. You’ll also enjoy live entertainment, a variety of games and activities, raffles, kid’s camp, great food and of course lots and lots of FUN!!! Many charity walks are geared towards adults only, but Relay For Life is a very kid friendly, family event where all are welcome.

We are in need of additional volunteers. If you are willing to volunteer any of your time it would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested please contact Jacky Poulsen at VolunteersRFL@gmail.com.

Shakespeare's Associates - The Tragedy of Macbeth
One of Shakespeare’s most thoughtful plays, Macbeth is fueled by the occult, battle scenes, and a lusty passion that makes this play part mystery, part action, and part serial drama. Despite his passionate nature, Macbeth “still has judgment here” and shares with us his innermost struggles as he, a great warrior, great lover and true believer, makes the choices that will either exalt him or destroy him.

Event Date / Time / Location Description
Kassandra Brown June 5

2:00pm

Main Library

Local Livermore resident and author of The Only One He Couldn’t Have, Kassandra Brown, will speak at 2pm on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center, 1188 S. Livermore Avenue. There is no charge for this event. Books will be available for sale and signing.
A journey of a lifetime, a forbidden romance and an evil that threatens to destroy everything, The Only One He Couldn’t Have is a fantasy-adventure romance set between two worlds, Earth and a mystical place called Karmathor. A young orphan girl must stop a war between worlds; she will discover who she truly is and where she truly belongs.

Born in Sooke, British Columbia, Canada, Kassandra Brown moved to Livermore in 1997 where she began writing short stories for her friends and family. In 2006 she placed one of her short stories, Lands of Eselon: Shadow Spell into the Livermore Public Library’s Newcott Caldebery contest. She was the winner of the best author and best illustrator awards for 9th grade. This is her first published book, and the start to the Covenant of the Rose series.

Scenes from Shakespeare's MacBeth June 19
Sunday

2:00pm

Main Library

Preview scenes from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and Ken Ludwug’s Lend Me a Tenor at 2pm on Sunday, June 19th, at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center, 1188 S. Livermore Avenue. There is no charge for this event.

Artistic Director Lisa Tromovitch and actors from Livermore Shakespeare Festival will present scenes and discuss themes from their upcoming summer season’s plays.

Ken Ludwig’s Lend Me a Tenor is a low-brow comedy set in the high class world of the opera. It’s a farce…the comedy of comedies - girls and guys hiding in closets, running around and slamming doors. Who says we can’t enjoy a bit of opera with our pratfalls, or a bit of low-brow humor with our artistic acumen?
