Drive a Bike: Free Bicycle Safety Education. Dublin, April 21st—As a response to a community need, East Bay Bicycle Coalition has initiated several Bicycle Safety Education Classes throughout the Spring as a way to offer free informational services and resources to community members. On April 21st, 2011, from 5:30 – 9 pm, The Traffic Skills 101 Class will be held at the Dublin Civic Center Library, 200 Civic Plaza at City Hall, for all Dublin residents to attend. Traffic Skills 101 provides a great opportunity for bikers of all experience levels and ages 14 – adult to either learn new basic skills or add to their current knowledge of all the ins-and-outs of bicycle safety. The class covers topics such as riding in traffic, appropriate bicycle commuting equipment, crash avoidance, and the rights and responsibilities of bicyclers. No bicycle is needed for this workshop—come ready to learn more about how to confidently ride with traffic! East Bay Bicycle Coalition is a volunteer-run organization that advocates
both for bicycle commuting and supports bicycle commuters as an effort to
use alternative modes of transportation for East Bay residents to get around
their community and the greater Bay Area. The Coalition will also be
offering other classes throughout the months of March – June all across the
East Bay to accommodate those living in neighboring communities. Please
refer to our website for a listing of all locations and classes available in

All Shook Up - Tri-Valley Repertory Theater Librettist Joe DiPietro's exuberant jukebox musical shoe-horns the songs of Elvis Presley into a narrative that's part camp, part romantic farce. The loopy tale of mismatched lovers in a 1955 Midwest burg incorporates classics that range from sweet romantic ballads such as "Love Me Tender" to the rollicking "Devil in Disguise" and the hip-swiveling title song. Starting with a gender-bending plot device reminiscent of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, DiPietro stirred in a dash of Footloose, then seasoned the brew with humorous flashes from sundry vintage shows such as The Music Man and By By Birdie. An underrated gem, driven by sidesplitting tongue-in-cheek humor, those evergreen chart-toppers, and a tinge of genuine heart. Sponsor: Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre Location: Bankhead Theater - LVPAC web site - eLivermore Bankhead Theater page Times: Fridays & Saturday: 8:00pm. Sunday Matinees: 2:00pm. There is both a 2:00pm and 8:00pm performance on April 30. Admission: Individual tickets: $37.50 for adults (18-60), $35.50 for seniors (60+), $27.50 for juniors (under 18). Resurrection Dance Theater of Haiti Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti (RDTH): This dance troupe hails from St. Joseph's Home for Boys in Port au Prince. St. Joseph's is a home for boys who have been rescued from life on the streets in Haiti. They now reside at St. Joseph’s Home for Boys. Through art and dance they tell the stories of their life experiences. Their performances range from sharing the history of Haiti including, their nation's struggle against slavery, past and present, to Haitian life lived in both the rural and urban settings of Haiti. The troupe uses the arts to build and express self-esteem, incorporating drumming, dance, song, and the visual arts. Narration is contributed by the Executive Director and founder (in 1985) of St. Joseph’s Home for Boys, Michael Geilenfeld. The Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti has performed across the US and Canada including performances at Dance Africa Chicago and Dance Africa New York. Theirs tours are intended to raise awareness about Haiti’s challenges as well as to raise funds for the ongoing work of St. Joseph’s. St. Joseph's was completely destroyed in the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. An American seminarian was there at the time, and did not make it out alive. St. Joseph's Home for Boys is part of a trio of homes. Wings of Hope, Fermathe, Haiti, is arguably one of the finest group homes in all of the Caribbean for children with special needs. It is currently uninhabitable from the earthquake. Trinity House and School, the third home, is located in Jacmel, and was started by the boys of St. Joseph's Home in Port au Prince. This tour will raise funds and awareness for all three schools, as well as the communities in which these homes reside. Bill Nathan was a former street child and child slave who grew up at St. Joseph's, and is now the Director of the Home. He is also the world-renowed drummer that plays with RDTH. A quick internet search of his name will reveal a number of stories about his inspiring story. Sponsor: Haitian Timoun Foundation Location: Livermore High School Theater. Times: 7:00pm Admission: $12 Adults, $6 Students. 100% of you ticket purchase goes to HTF. More info: Haitian Timoun Foundation |
