Shakespeare's Associates - The Tragedy of Macbeth
One of Shakespeare’s most thoughtful plays, Macbeth is fueled by the occult, battle scenes, and a lusty passion that makes this play part mystery, part action, and part serial drama. Despite his passionate nature, Macbeth “still has judgment here” and shares with us his innermost struggles as he, a great warrior, great lover and true believer, makes the choices that will either exalt him or destroy him.

Shakespeare's Associates - Lend Me a Tenor
It’s a farce! The comedy of comedies. Girls and guys hiding in closets. Running around and slamming doors. Tenor is a low-brow comedy set in the high class world of the opera. Who says we can’t enjoy a bit of opera with our pratfalls, or a bit of low-brow humor with our artistic acumen (… and a glass of wine while we enjoy both)?

Eric Johnson
Eric Johnson’s stature as one of the premier guitar players in contemporary music is his artistic trump card, backed by a Grammy Award and five nominations, platinum album, Top 10 hits like “Cliffs Of Dover,” praise from critics and the esteem of his peers. Johnson leapt to the forefront of contemporary music some 20 years ago as “an extraordinary guitar player accessible to ordinary music fans,” as the Memphis Commercial Appeal hails him, with his landmark million selling 1990 album Ah Via Musicom, also winning Johnson a Grammy for “Cliffs Of Dover.” The New Age Music Guide raved that “Eric Johnson plays guitar the way Michelangelo painted ceilings: with a colorful vibrancy that’s more real than life.”

His many achievements include being enshrined in Guitar Player’s Gallery of Greats and named one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century by Musician magazine alongside numerous other awards. He was tapped by Eric Clapton to appear at the 2004 Crossroads Guitar Festival and played his second stint of the Experience Hendrix tour in 2010. Johnson boasts both a signature Fender Stratocaster electric and Martin MC-40 acoustic guitar. “Cliffs of Dover” is featured in the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as the final winning challenge.

The Sound of Music - Tri-Valley Repertory Theater
The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical.  When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain.  Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry.  Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy.  The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling inspirational finales over presented in the theater.

The Oakland Jazz Choir is a talented group of dedicated singers from diverse backgrounds that have joined voices to take part in a new genre of vocal jazz. The use of 15 skilled, dynamic singers in a jazz choral setting provides a unique opportunity to deliver an innovative sound – exquisite harmonies and rhythms distinct to jazz, expressed by the power and finesse of so many human voices. The group sings traditional and contemporary jazz with exciting original arrangements. Paying homage to the cultural roots of jazz, OJC’s repertoire also includes blues, gospel, Latin and Brazilian music.

Through research, education, collaboration, outreach and performances in a wide variety of settings, OJC carries out their mission of preserving one of the most inspiring and inspired American art forms – jazz music. OJC performs throughout the year at a wide variety of venues including Yoshi’s, The Great American Music Hall, SF Jazz Festival, Tahoe Summer Music Festival, Oakland’s Art and Soul Festival, and many others. They also donate their time to various benefit organizations in the area.

The Oakland Jazz Choir has collaborated and performed with notable artists such as the great jazz vocalists Mark Murphy, Marlena Shaw and Madeline Eastman; fabulous blues singers Faye Carol and Brenda Boykin; the inspirational gospel singer and director Terrance Kelly; talented Bay Area arranger Greg Murai; and the innovative Keith Terry and his group Crosspulse. Dave Becker of the Oakland Tribune calls them “…a local treasure…”
