Bringing Art to Life - Valley Dance Theater

|
October 7 Sunday
|
Bringing Art to Life - Valley Dance Theater Please join the Valley Dance Theatre in "Bringing Art to Life" as we celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Bankhead Theater in downtown Livermore! We open our celebration with a classical barre and centre master class and a demonstration of classical ballet partnering skills as a prelude to the phenomenal pas-de-deux work featured in our performance of Vitali's Chaconne. This original work choreographed by the VDT's own Doug Johnson uses the music of the pre-Baroque dance form to take the art of the pas-de-deux to new levels and premiered in May 2007. We follow with a modern piece-- Inconsistent Vogue --which showcases the "art-to-wear" created by Caryne Mount, award winning textile artist and costume designer. We conclude this special performance with classical ballet favorites sure
to enthrall everyone: excerpts from Act II of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake
featuring the "little swans" and the "white swan" pas-de-deux and Margaret
Kenrick's The Firebird to the music of the avant-garde, Russian composer of
ballet music, Stravinsky, also featuring original costumes by Betsy Hausburg
and Caryne Mount. |

Art Walk & Art Banner Auction
|
October 13 Saturday
|
Art Walk & Art Banner Auction Artists exhibit inside businesses on First through Third Street , between L Street and McLeod. To help guide you as you explore these exhibits, we also produce tour maps and an online gallery, so that you can be certain to see the art that interest you the most. For the past six years, ArtWalk has helped to foster a sense of community and cooperation between the businesses, artists, and visitors who participate. It's a great excuse to tour your favorite little store, discover overlooked treasures, and explore the new businesses that have been popping up all over the downtown. You'll find artists from all ends of the spectrum— those just beginning to exhibit and those who make a living from their work. And, unlike traditional art festivals, we don't insist that every piece be for sale. We want local artists to feel free to use this opportunity to get feedback from the community, to practice marketing themselves and showing their work, or simply to have fun! Of course, we'd appreciate it if you'd pay special attention to the businesses who sponsor ArtWalk and/or host an artist— ArtWalk wouldn't be possible without them, or without you, for that matter! So check out our online gallery and print a map , pick one up at our info booths, or simply head for the heart of downtown on October 16 th . We suggest that you park at the new garage on Railroad (across from the Bankhead Theater) and look for the sign markers. This is a free, rain-or-shine-event. We hope to see you there! |
