Pleasanton Playhouse - Grease | ||||
|
April 20, 21, 22 27, 28, 29 May 4, 5, 6 Fri, Sat, Sun
|
Pleasanton Playhouse - Grease GREASE won America's heart with a 1950s rock n' roll pastiche score and a hokey story about white trash high school kids finding friendship ("rama lama lama") and romance ("ka dingy dee ding dong!") during their senior year. It had enough low comedy and general goodwill to entertain almost anyone. After opening to good reviews at the Eden Theatre on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the show soon moved to Broadway, becoming the most commercially successful 1970s rock musical. Thanks to a low operating budget, GREASE set a new record as Broadway's longest running musical – a distinction it would hold until A Chorus Line surpassed it in the 1980s. It was the only successful theatrical project by co-creators Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. As the years went by, the New York production interpolated obscenities to amuse teenage theatre-goers, but these changes were never added to the approved script. The 1978 big screen version became the highest-grossing musical in Hollywood history, and a 1994 Broadway revival supervised by Tommy Tune ran for 1,503 performances. An ongoing favorite with community theatres and school groups, GREASE remains one of the most popular musicals of all time. Sunday Matinees: 2:00pm Admission: Adult: $30; Seniors over 60: $28; Juniors under 18: $20 Discounts for group sales over 20. Season tickets also available. More info: Pleasanton Playhouse |

Symphony Concert | ||||
|
May 12 Saturday |
Livermore-Amador Symphony Concert Vivaldi: “Summer” from The Four Seasons Sally Dalke, violin Schubert: Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished” J. Strauss II: Emperor Waltz Mussorgsky/Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition We asked, and you told us. We asked you, the audience, to tell us your symphonic favorites, and here are four from the top of your list. The Symphony’s own concertmaster Sally Dalke shines again in Vivaldi’s ode to the season of blazing heat and thunderstorms. Schubert’s mysteriously “unfinished” symphony has tantalized music historians ever since its discovery 37 years after his death. “Waltz King” Johann Strauss the younger employs a martial snare drum to give one of his most popular waltzes an “imperial” sound. Artwork on the museum wall comes to life in Ravel’s brilliant orchestration of Mussorgsky’s piano suite. Sally Dalke earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance at
San Jose State University and began her professional career playing with the
orchestras of Opera San Jose and American Musical Theatre. Ms. Dalke has
toured the United States with the San Francisco Opera/ Western Opera Theater
and played in Nebraska with the Omaha and Lincoln Symphonies. She currently
serves as concertmaster of the Livermore-Amador Symphony, plays in several
other Bay Area orchestras, and maintains a private teaching studio |
