Riders in the Sky
For more than thirty years, Riders In The Sky have been the keepers of the flame passed on by Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. Reviving and revitalizing the genre, they have remained true to the integrity of Western music while branding it with their own wacky humor and way-out Western wit. Thanks to Woody’s Round-Up from Disney’s Toy Story 2, they became the only western band to win a Grammy Award, an honor they have achieved twice. Whether sharing their music on stage, on the radio, or on the road, the Riders enthusiastically live life The Cowboy Way.

Lucia di Lammermoor

At the Bankhead Theater

March 14-15
March 21-22
Sat-Sun

Lucia di Lammermoor
Lucia di Lammermoor is a tragic story that serves as a protest against deceitful tactics and a practice of forced marriage that is unfortunately still current in some parts of the world. Lucia is a beautiful young woman deeply in love with a young man from a family hated by her villainous brother. Her brother forces her into a political marriage for his own benefit, using deceit, lies, and forgery. Although the tale ends in tragedy for everyone, Donizetti's not-to-be-missed music is among the most glorious in opera and its mad scene has been a dramatic and vocal vehicle for making stars of sopranos like Maria Callas and Dame Joan Sutherland.

California Coast Cruise:
RMS Queen Mary and USS Midway Trip
March 12
Thursday

1:30-2:30pm

Main Library.

ARMCHAIR TRAVELERS, a monthly program, will take place at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center on THURSDAY, MARCH 12TH, 2015 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.. Doug and Lindy Webb will share photographs and stories of a trip they took down the California coast. The trip included a roundtrip cruise from San Francisco with ports of call in Ensenada, San Diego, Long Beach, and Santa Barbara.

In addition to walking tours in the port cities, the trip included special tours of the RMS Queen Mary (Long Beach) and the USS Midway (San Diego). The Queen Mary, whose maiden voyage was in 1936, was a luxury cruise ship, used in WWII as a troopship and now permanently moored and used as a museum and hotel. She is moored at the Long Beach cruise ship terminal. Alongside the ship is a Russian submarine, The Scorpion, B-427, launched in 1971, patrolled in the Pacific, and decommissioned by Russia in 1994 and sold to businessmen.

The USS Midway was commissioned just after WWII, the lead ship of its class and the world’s largest ship until 1955, the first ship that was too big to transit the Panama Canal. She saw action in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Decommissioned in 1992 she is now a museum ship (including aircraft on the hanger and flight decks) and memorial, moored at the Broadway Pier in downtown San Diego.

Adults are invited to this free program on the second Thursday of each month in the Community Meeting Rooms of the Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Avenue, Livermore. For additional information please call 925 373-5500.
