Peking Acrobats
For thirty four years, The Peking Acrobats have redefined the image of Chinese acrobatics, pushing the limits of human ability, defying gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control. With daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs or along tall poles, they display their technical prowess with such arts as trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. Accompanied by live musicians on traditional Chinese instruments, their classic Chinese music combines with high-tech special effects and awe-inspiring acrobatic feats to create an exuberant experience with the festive pageantry of a Chinese carnival.

The Peking Acrobats set the world record for the Human Chair Stack on the Guinness Book Primetime television show in 1999. Balancing six people on six chairs, twenty one feet up in the air without safety lines, they astounded audiences with their bravery and dexterity.

Since 1986, The Peking Acrobats have been featured on numerous television shows and television specials including Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous, Ellen (DeGeneres)’ Really Big Show, That’s Incredible, Wide World of Sports, and Ring In The New Year Holiday Special. They have also appeared in 3D on NBC/Comcast’s new 3D Channel. On the big screen, The Peking Acrobats were featured in the hit film Ocean’s Eleven with Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, and former member Shaobo Qin went on to appear in the films’ two sequels.

Blues in the Night, An Evening with Tia Carroll & Frankie G.
The blues are certainly alive and well in 2022, so let the voice of the Female Blues Vocalist of the Year Tia Carroll and the blistering Guitar & Vocals of Delta Blues Star Frankie G cure what ails you in this one-night-only musical event.

Born and raised in Richmond, Ca, TIA started out as a Rock and Roll singer with a band called Yakety Yak. Over the years, she has quietly accumulated one of the most impressive entertainment resumes in the Bay Area and has become one of the most sought-after female singers on the West Coast. Carroll has headlined venues and festivals all over the world, shared stages with legends including Ray Charles, Jimmy McCracklin and Sugar Pie DeSanto, and opened for Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, and Tower of Power.

Tia has toured throughout South America and through Canada, France, Spain and Italy where she was featured at the Jazzkarr festival in Tallinn Estonia and Switzerland at The Lucerne Blues Festival. She was nominated “Best Traditional Blues Woman” by the Jus Blues Music Foundation and awarded “Female Blues Vocalist of The Year” by the West Coast Blues Hall Of Fame. She is constantly compared to legendary female singers Tina Turner, Koko Taylor and Etta James, but TIA CARROLL has her own unique star power that’s evident in her stage show and recordings.

Frankie Giovanni “Frankie G” has been a blues guitar player in Antioch for more than 20 years. He headed up the East Bay band Killin’ Floor for 9 years. Many festivals made Killin’ Floor an annual staple in their line up for the crowd-pleasing talent of Frankie G. Emotional and passionate in style, Frankie holds nothing back when he performs. Influenced by the likes of Freddie King, SRV, Eric Clapton and Johnny Winter, his own style shines through and delivers the goods.

His heart is as big as his talent. After fellow blues player and friend David Williamson started the Delta Blues Festival, Frankie picked up producing the annual event which raises money for scholarships to students. So far, the Festival has raised more than $42,000.

Rockapella

Rockapella
From their early years singing doo wop on New York City street corners, to selling-out performances around the world, Rockapella became sophisticated masters of the vocal art form a cappella. Now making a welcome fourth visit to the Bankhead, Rockapella will rock the house with just one instrument – their voices – but with an astonishing full-band sound.

Although recent interest in a cappella dates back to the success of the smash television hit “Glee,” Rockapella’s sleek vocals have been drawing fans old and new for almost three decades. The group has traveled far since their early collegiate roots, when an enthusiastic a cappella quartet of Brown University graduates started singing on street corners in 1986. They were soon seen regularly on “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” and have since appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and on stage with the Boston Pops Orchestra.

It seems impossible for Rockapella’s rich and resonant sound to be coming from just five guys with microphones – no instruments, no tracks, no mirrors. “People have a hard time believing it’s just us making all of that music: percussion, bass, melody and harmonies,” says Scott Leonard, the group’s chief songwriter and arranger. Leonard has been a member of Rockapella since 1991 and, while the group has evolved over the years, the changes have brought different talents and personalities, keeping the group fresh and dynamic. Throughout the decades, they have held true to their focus on precise vocals and a full harmony sound.

Whether evoking the smooth dance moves and sleek harmonies of The Temptations, singing a vintage Mills Brother’s tune, or putting their own spin on modern rock and hip hop, an evening with Rockapella is guaranteed to be filled with pure vocal magic.

Acclaimed worldwide, “PIAF! The Show” offers a remarkable musical celebration of the life and music of the legendary French chanteuse Edith Piaf. Conceived and directed by the Nice-based theatrical maverick Gil Marsalla and starring Anne Carrere, a young French performer hailed as Edith Piaf’s legitimate musical heiress. “PIAF! The Show” premiered in 2015 as a tribute to “The Swallow of Montmartre” on the centennial on her birthday and was inspired by the award-winning movie La Vie En Rose.
