Livermore Valley Opera - The Marriage of Figaro
The Marriage of Figaro remains one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy in music. Mozart’s melodies sparkle and librettist Da Ponte is at the top of his art. Based on the play by Beaumarchais, it is the story after The Barber of Seville, and it tells how the servants Figaro and Susanna succeed in getting married, foiling the efforts of their philandering employer Count Almaviva to seduce Susanna and teaching him a lesson in fidelity. In this newly-conceived production of Neil Simon’s classic play, true comedy ensues when a man looks for something new and different, but ends up finding himself in the same situation again and again. Barney rediscovers love in the last place he thought to look. “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” was made into a 1972 hit film starring Alan Arkin and Sally Kellerman.
