Art Under the Oaks
Held in conjunction with The Livermore Art Association, over 50 artists will be demonstrating and displaying their work. Local wineries will be pouring tastes of area vintages. The ever popular fruit tasting will also be held, taste all the new varieties and then order the fruit tree of your dreams. Music fills the oak covered grounds, as the local favorites Stony Ridge Ramblers play Dixieland jazz, and Pleasanton Community Concert fills the air with big band numbers! There is an art in motion area for kids, and Harvey Bumble "our little folks gardener" makes special appearances. Face painting for the kids is available. Bring the whole family, this is an event you don't want to miss!

Whispering Tombstones
Richard Finn and Mary Dillon will present a talk and slide show, “Whispering Tombstones,” about some of the colorful and interesting people who lived in Pleasanton and are buried at two Pleasanton cemeteries. The talk is part of the Museum On Main Ed Kinney Lecture Series.

The talk will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 20, at Lynnewood United Methodist Church, 4444 Black Avenue, Pleasanton. Reservations are requested. Call (925) 462-2766. Admission is $5 for museum members and $10 for non-members. Memberships will be available for purchase that night.

The Odd Fellows/Pleasanton Memorial Gardens Cemetery dates back to 1886 and houses the remains of pioneer families including Bonde, Kruse, Kolln, Orloff, Reinstein, Hansen, Oxsen, Neal, Koopmann and Mohr and others.

The neighboring St. Augustine's Catholic Cemetery dates back to before 1908 and is the final resting place for many pioneer families including Andrade, Amarantes, Fallon, Terra, Alameda, Avilla, Medeiros, Schween, Martin, Lyster, Higuera, Bernal, Delucchi and others.

Richard Finn is an experienced genealogist who is researching Tri-Valley families who arrived before 1910. His Pioneer Families project collects the genealogy and stories of the early families down to current contacts. His goal is to provide this information, as complete as possible, to local museums and genealogy societies in order to help modern family members find their roots.

Mary Dillon is a family genealogist with a strong interest in local history. She works for the Tri-Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau that has allowed her to learn more about local history throughout the region. She is a professional tour guide leading local history and wine tours and walking tours of Pleasanton.
