Valley Concert Choral - Carmina Burana
Don't miss Carl Orff's ever-popular and appealing dramatic work Carmina Burana. This masterpiece, which Orff composed in just a few weeks in 1937, is based on 13th century manuscripts that were first discovered in a Bavarian Monastary in 1847. From the original manuscript's two hundred songs, Orff selected twenty-five of most powerful songs for his work. He intended that it be a staged piece, but the strong powerful pagan rhythms and often blasphemous lyrics have ensured that this piece will enjoyed by audiences everywhere.
Members of the San Franciscos Concert Chorale and Cantabella Children's Chorus will join us, all accompanied by percussion ensemble and duo-pianos.

    • Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 4, "Italian"

The special tribute to Mozart continues with the overture to his famous dramatization of the legend of Don Juan, dark anti-hero of the Enlightenment. Mendelssohn's tour of the picturesque landscape of Italy inspired his most popular symphony. Featured soloist is the Symphony's own Eva Langfeldt. She has participated in many musical groups in the area, including the Contra Costa Wind Symphony, with which she performed the Hidas oboe concerto at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts. A guest conductor leads the Symphony in a trio of light classic favorites from Germany, Finland, and Hungary.
